  • Sunday, Oct 9th - Sunday, Nov 6th Kartika is glorified in the Puranas as very special for making spiritual advancement. It is also known as the month of Damodara, since in this month the Lord performed His very enchanting Damodara Lila, where He was bound by the ropes of love of Mother Yashoda. Kartika month also represents Srimati Radharani and devotees perform special austerities during this month to gain Her favor.Make a Kartika Vrata (Vow) for Krishna's Pleasure “Urja-vrata” refers to the acceptance of special vows during kartika. Devotees often take vows to increase their hearing, chanting, worship, or to observe restrictions in their eating. Making and keeping such vows during the month of Damodara guarantees compounded benefits. Consider making a vow to follow all or few of these items below as Kartika Vrata: • One ghee lamp to Damodar & sing Damodarashtakam. • Rise early in the morning. • Chant Krishna’s names – chant extra rounds – take a vow of chant fixed number of rounds. • Read a chapter of Bhagavad Gita everyday. • Learn a verse everyday. • Accept only Krishna Prasadam. • Offer Tulasi leaves to Krishna. • Hear at least one class of Bhagavatam. • Read certain number of pages of Bhagavad Gita or Srimad Bhagavatam • Fasting vows. • Offer service at the temple. • Observe Ekadasi (avoid grains and beans) • Encourage people to observe this vrata.
